Pirates of the Caribbean

Well, the 3rd "Pirates" movie just came out and it has been getting great reviews, so I saw it last night with my wife and some friends. Seeing it renewed my oft-suspected idea that my like in movies is exactly the opposite of critics.

Pirates of the Caribbean is 0 for 3 in my book. Granted, I didn't watch the entire second one, but that's because I just could not, for the life of me, get into it. In all of them, the character development didn't make sense (characters betrayed each other left and right and then were friends the next moment - there was no consistency within each character - half the time I was asking who the bad and good guys were cause it changed all the time), the plot dogged all over the place like a squirrel trying to figure out how to get out of the road, and the dramatic moments didn't flow from the story line naturally or even seem like they should be there.

Sure, it has some cool graphics and sound effects. The action scenes were pretty sweet and all. But the raw aspects of film (and stories in general) were not there. The movies just weren't that good, and this third one was no different.

So if you liked the first two, I guess this one would be good. But if you haven't seen any of them, I wouldn't bother.

I think one's opinion of the 3 movies usually parallels one's opinion of Johnny Depp. Needless to say, I found the three movies hot hot and hot. Ok, I've only seen the first one and part of the second one (in Spanish).

I did just watch Jim Carrey's "lemony snickets" movie and found it rather enjoyable. I know...it's a few years old, but you can't argue with 7 day, 50 cent rentals from the library....unless like the other two movies they are too scratched to play. ughhh.

I saw Pirates 3 with Dad a couple of days ago. While I really, really liked the first two (I count them amongst my favorite movies of all time), my opinion is that the third one sucked. Dad's opinion of it is even worse...

It's like they decided that they already had the fanbase, so they didn't need a good storyline, but they figured that they'd throw a bunch of money at it anyway.

Yeah, I think my criticism is mostly aimed at the 3rd one. The first one was built up really big so I think that altered my opinion of it when I saw it (I thought it was ok). Regardless, the 3rd one was poorly thought out.

Mark, everyone has their opinions. It just so happens that mine is always right. Hahaha, I can say that here.

I randomly ended up in your blog, so I decided to read it. Honestly, it amazes me how much of a wannabe Bill O'Reily you are. You're a hopeless redneck with aspirations of having a brain, a true shame to america's name and (long lost) reputation.

The FCC should seize your computer for NC-17 stupidity, and Bush should lock you up in Guantanamo, because such uneducated thinking is (or should be)a federal crime.

For the sake of intelligent people in this planet, please stop writing and go watch NASCAR (if you're not, already).

I'm sure you will understand (actually, I wish I was),

Thank you.

If three hills think the movie's no good that's enough for me to not waste my time on it.

Alan,

I take it you really liked Pirates of the Caribbean, then?

Alas (don't get to use that word often), I really don't like NASCAR at all, get frustrated with Bill O'Reilly and am not a big fan of his, and you are the first and only person who has referred to me as a "redneck".

If you come back and read this, I can show you why I don't believe I fit in the "redneck" category, but as with most on the Left, you won't come back because you cannot accept that others have opposing viewpoints. As such, you try to shut them up by violating freedom of speech, which is tyranny - something the Left refuses to fight against, indirectly supporting it, and whose means it uses for its own gain, thus directly supporting it.

I don't know who alan is, but it sounded like he was being sarcastic. and if he wasn't, that is probably the most emotional, irrational and disconnected thought process put into a paragraph, verbal or written, since Michael Moore said that after 9/11 said that there was no terrorist threat.

I think i'm going to see oceans 13 instead of the Pirates 3. I think its about robbing a casino again, but this time, al pacino is in it. And they probably have a new soundtrack.
