Pirates of the Caribbean
Well, the 3rd "Pirates" movie just came out and it has been getting great reviews, so I saw it last night with my wife and some friends. Seeing it renewed my oft-suspected idea that my like in movies is exactly the opposite of critics.
Pirates of the Caribbean is 0 for 3 in my book. Granted, I didn't watch the entire second one, but that's because I just could not, for the life of me, get into it. In all of them, the character development didn't make sense (characters betrayed each other left and right and then were friends the next moment - there was no consistency within each character - half the time I was asking who the bad and good guys were cause it changed all the time), the plot dogged all over the place like a squirrel trying to figure out how to get out of the road, and the dramatic moments didn't flow from the story line naturally or even seem like they should be there.
Sure, it has some cool graphics and sound effects. The action scenes were pretty sweet and all. But the raw aspects of film (and stories in general) were not there. The movies just weren't that good, and this third one was no different.
So if you liked the first two, I guess this one would be good. But if you haven't seen any of them, I wouldn't bother.
